Wisdom Panel DNA Testing

The Wisdom Panel Professional is a DNA blood test which can reveal your mixed-breed dog's ancestry. They test for more than 225 breeds, which is the largest database on the market. The newest panel also will predict a puppy's adult weight range and pre-screen a dog's breed-related risks for developing certain genetic diseases. This is Lacey, Dr. Singh's dog who was born around mid-October 2008. She was adopted from a shelter as a 13 week old puppy. The staff at the shelter thought she was a Border Collie, but since they didn't know her parents, they couldn't be sure. As she grew, we started to see some German Shepherd-like traits in her coat, tail, and ears. We sent off a small blood sample to Mars Veterinary so that they could run a Wisdom Panel DNA test. Here are Lacey's results:

 

Lacey's results showed three Intermediate Breeds (at least 25% of the dog's DNA coming from each breed): Border Collie, German Shepherd Dog and Australian Shepherd.

We definitely see each of these breeds in Lacey now, in both her physical features and her behavior. She shows many herding behaviors, is very intelligent, alert and observant, and requires a lot of exercise and play time. By knowing what breeds make up Lacey, we gain valuable insight about her, helping us understand and meet her needs for the physical and mental exercise required by these energetic and intelligent breeds.
